In the summer of 2004, he established Trepidation Comics and wrote his first book, Echoes of Dawn, at that time. Wanting to expand beyond just horror, Z.M. began to delve into satire, creating his first book Roe vs Abe released in March of 2012.

After finding success in the satire genre, Z.M. created the Bible 2, Joseph Smith in Space, and most recently, Trash & Can-It. However, without forgetting his horror roots, Z.M. has continued to write several horror titles including The 11th Hour, Dead Reckoning and his most recent project, The Cult of Blob.

Z.M.Thomas is currently working on a limited Native American Steampunk series inspired by his Dakota Mdewakanton Sioux family entitled Sioux Falls.
